Lawrence, KS 61miles

Lawrence, KS 61miles
This day was an adventure! It started out on a paved bicycle path,
sounds nice and easy, right? Wrong! Yes it was fun but certainly not
the "easy" ride I was expecting. The week previous there had been
storms and flooding which left the bike path strewn with piles of
rocks, fallen trees, puddles, mud, sticks, barriers and dead fish. We
compared it to a video game, getting on and off our bikes and carrying
them over the fallen trees, yelling "fish left!" sharp turns to avoid
mud-it was so great! Later there was a gravel road, which wasn't
particularly great except for the fact that there was a big storm fast
approaching which encouraged us to go faster. It felt like a scene
from the wizard of oz, windy with ominous clouds up ahead and
surrounding. After we got on paved road once again the skies opened
up. Thunder, lightning, and rain with wind so hard it felt like hail!
We stopped underneath some trees for a little while, continued biking,
it started storming again and then we stopped again, this time at a
house. We sat on the porch and played with some puppies while we
waited out the storm. The rest of the ride was beautiful! We were
literally biking into the light, with the dark storm sky behind us. It
was wonderful, the whole ride this day was surreal and amazing. Once
we got to our host, a private school, we went swimming in the great
outdoor pool with a water slide! It was perfect.

  1. Ugh storms do not sound like fun but it's kinda awesome that you can say you conquered that! I'm glad you got to stop for a while and pet some puppies. And you should know that I exercised excellent restraint the past couple weeks. If we were still living in our old apartment we would have had a three month old german shorthair puppy, who was stinking adorable btw, or one or three of three owner release cats that really reminded me of our Simon. But by some miracle, and against every fiber of my being, I managed to refrain. This whole no foster thing definately helps me understand parents and the whole empty nest issue lol I feel like I have an empty nest! Stay safe and keep on riding! Can you believe it's almost July?

  2. Hi Kristen :)

So I'm coming to realize that the blog comments section has become something like my personal blog. I'm just writing you comments about every miniscule thing and then my mom texts me because she reads something on you're blog comments from me...Sorry for the take over, but I can't really use my phone too much especially starting saturday so I'd better comment as much as I can before I need to pay attention to my girls! And there is nothing sadder than a post without comments...

Today was pretty flippin awesome :) We met in small groups right after breakfast. I went with the Junior B's which made me really hopeful, since I wanted junior b's and so did all the other returners. But last year all of the returners stayed with their small group that they started the day with. We talked about our theme song for life (Smile by Vitamin C) our favorite part about being 10, our must frustration moments ("But I'm old enought to do my homework when I want to!!!" said in a realllllly winy voice...sorry mom) and whether we are mom's or big sisters. Jordy is my area head (age group boss) who is an amazing counselor from last years with the most awesome Melbourne accent. I'm happy because I told her on the first day I wanted to be with her age group and she said she guessed she would have to fight for me (she believed the lies that the other area heads were feeding her...fist fights and bribe wars over photos-she's pretty guilable) I guess she must have won lol. After we finished small groups we had to go to the infirmary for lice checks and temperature ect...I passed so I must be healthy. After lunch the US citizens went out on the lake skiing and the non-US'ers went to Albany to get their social security cards. There were five of us left at ski, so we all went out in the same boat. I called "peaker privilage" (the peakers{oldest group on camp} like to pretend that they get special priviledges because its their last summer; they don't) and skied first. AHHHHHH it was wonderful! I was nervous, but I got up and had a beautiful run. I fell once when I was cutting to hard and lost the fin, but I was fine :) After that the rest of the girls skiied and it was nice to just relax and watch instead of having to give driving pointers or observe, like I have been doing while I taught them. I think we're ready for the campers! At least at ski lol. After that we worked on the waterfront act for the counselor show that we put on the first night of camp. Ski's song is love game by lady gaga. "Let's have some fun from Ti to Peak, I wanna take a ride on our ski nautiques, ect" We finished up, had a wonderful "thanksgiving" dinner and found out our bunks. I got Jr. B's so I was estatic! I didn't get one with a porch, but everything else is beautiful. The closet is largish, the bathroom has about 5 sq. ft. more room than last years. Their are even HOOKS! I wished for hooks on so many rainy day's last year. And now my life is complete. I don't really know my co- yet, so I'll wait to describe her until I know her better. She seems really nice. It's really starting to pour buckets of rain now and I still have to run my computer to the bunk, so I'd better get going. Have a great ride!
