Yet another, "easy" day, everything feels easy compared to the mountains now! But there were actually a few steep hills to keep things interesting. We were able to talk to quite a few people to tell them what we are doing, and everyone is so inspired. Because we were on less busy roads today, we were able to ride side by side and talk more-the ride goes by SO much faster when you get to talk to cool people. The last 8 miles of the ride was on a highway with very busy, fast traffic and bad roads (holes, bumps, debris), but we all made it to the host church safely!!
I've been thinking about cutting my hair very short because it is starting to drive me nuts in my helmet every day, sweaty and hot. But I'm not sure...some guys on the trip are having fun with facial hair designs, but that is something I am unable to do :( Portsmouth is pretty small, we explored a bit and tried to cross the bridge into Kentucky, but there was no sidewalk and our trip leader was concerned for our safety. Our trip leaders are great, taking care of us all and making sure we have everything we need-they are the best!! Right now I am at the public library computer, but I still don't pictures. If you want to look at some I recommend you look at my teammate Andy's blog: www. andyreagan.com. It's pretty good.
Love you all!!!

Hi Kristen :) I think you would look darling with a short haircut! You should get gel and make it spiky when you don't have a helmet on, then get Andy to take pictures so I can see them! I'm getting my haircut tomorrow, but it'll just be to snip off a little bit before I leave civilization on Wednesday lol. Random facts to consider: The first ambulance service was established in Cincinati in 1865. The official state rock song is "Hang on Sloopy" (incidentally the traditional song for Holland 6th graders to play at the saturday tulip time parade...and I may have thought that it was "Hang on Snoopy" for a couple of years). Ohio boasts the first man to orbit the earth and the oldest man in space-77 years (John Glenn).
ReplyDeleteThe first man to walk on the moon (Neil Armstrong) is from Wapakoneta(in west central OH). 50% of the US population lives within an 500 mile radius of Columbus. (WOW) 500 miles is a big number however, and within 500 miles of Columbus are NYC, Chicago, Nashville, all of Virginia and DC, Most of South Carolina, St. Louis, Detroit, Philadelphia and several other large cities.
P.S 2 down 10 to go!
Sadness...we missed two 4 on the auroal scale :( One was on memorial day and one was the wednesday that you were at orientation. You'll probably be too far south, but this saturday is a 3 so maybe we'll be lucky?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kelly - I think you would look very cute with a short haircut, however, I'm not sure your dad would agree with me on that. Andy does have a very good blog with lots of pictures. I've been spending way too much time looking at some of your teammates blogs (which is why I refuse to get a Facebook account by the way). We are almost 99.9% sure that the picture of someone smelling a rose is you. If not, somebody else on your team has a nose that looks just like yours. I also enjoy reading Emily's blog - she really has a way with words. Glad to hear you had an easy day today. Love you!!
ReplyDeleteI say cut it. I mean you are biking across the country and you have all summer to grow it back so I say go for it. Unless you want me to talk you out of it and then I can come up with just as many reasons for you to keep it long :) Andy's blog is good! LOVE YOU!!!!!
ReplyDeleteP.S. IOWA IS SO STINKING CLOSE!!!!!
So... your mom was right BLOGS ARE ADDICTING!!!! I spent my lunch hour reading a variety of blogs from people on your route lol and they are awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi there
ReplyDeleteI'm back from the Conference Grounds, washing and packing and off to the airport at 6:05 tomorrow morning. Off to California and Yosemite. I didn't have my computer with me camping so I was very anxious to read your blog this afternoon and hear about the mountains. Good for you Kristen! I have your picture in the trailer and followed your path on maps uncle Don printed out for me. I circled the cities you stopped at and the dates you were there. My maps are packed for the trip too so know we will continue to pray for you.
About the hair cut-I think spikes would be great! and sooo easy too. (I know that for a fact!)
Proud of you Kristen! "Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness." I'm sure you are seeing alot of his splendor! We hope to too.
Love you!!!!!
