This day was kind of a down day. Moods were depressed, there were many
bike problems, it rained A LOT, and the Missouri drivers today were a
little rude. They would lay on their horns and yell profanity at us,
even though we were as far over as we could be on the road, biking
safely. By a sign that says "share the road" with a picture of a
bicycle on it no less. Ah well, we made it to our host church and it
was wonderful. After sorting through our coolers and food, condensing
and organizing to make things fit better, I took a hot shower and got
my laundry together because it's laundry day! Dinner was great: cesear
salad, cheese bread, spaghetti and green beans. The best part of the
night, howerver, was the suprise the host had for us. They brought in
a massage therapist and chiropractor! Whoever wanted could get a free
adjustment and massage of whatever they needed. It was marvelous!
Several of the girls actully cried with joy when this suprise was
announced. Every Bike & Build day is a GREAT day!!!!!

So glad to hear you were able to have a massage and some relaxing. Keep up the good ride! Hopefully you won't encounter many people like the rude ones who should be ashamed of themselves. Are you behind a day? I have you in Sedalia on June 15 and building days on the 17th and 18th in Kansas City. Wherever-take care and know we are thinking of you.
ReplyDeletePraise God for massages!!!! I'm glad you were able to get what I'm sure was a much needed massage/relaxation time and I'm glad you made it safely despite the rude people's opposition. God really is good all the time:) When you encounter rude people just pray Numbers 6:24-26, "may the Lord bless you and keep you; may the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace." Love you!!! Keep on pedaling!!!!
ReplyDeleteSummer, I love your idea of praying Numbers 6:24-26 when encountering rude people. If these "Missouri drivers" only knew what these kids have gone through for the past 25 days they would have a whole new perception about sharing the road with them!! Actually after having met Kristen's teammates, I can't imagine any of them having a "depressed mood" about anything, even rude drivers. They truly are all amazing. Kristen, I was glad to hear you had a much better day riding into Kansas City. Love you!!
ReplyDeleteSummer...what are you doing commenting at 5:46 am???
ReplyDeleteKristen! In the wise words of Vitamin C "Put a smile on your faaaace, make the world a better plaaaaace!" So I definately just put my computer on the ground and started to run towards the back of main house before I realized it was the tv that was yelling "Please! Help ME! Help!" I managed to stop myself before I looked too stupid, but still....I am a lifeguard lol :) I'm sitting in Main house (I just sent you a photo) on my computer, waiting for Morgan (1/2 scottish, 1/2 american and all awesome accent lol) to finish tagging me in fb photos. We had our first day off last night and today. 5/6 of the group took a taxi and spent the night in lake george, but I and 10ish other awesome people went to the gas station, got ice cream, played ultimate, and had a sleep over in the peak! We watched the notebook and cuddled on 15ish matresses that we crammed together on the floor. Best night ever :) Then we took the bus (free!) to Lake George, went to the beach, shopped at all the cute little stores and sat under a tree in the shade. Almost everone spent the entire day on the beach trying to get rid of their tan lines. HA! Do they not realize that they are going to be living in their swimsuits for the next 8 weeks? The tan lines are only going to get worse...and they're all REALLY burnt. I would feel bad, but I don't :) Came back, had a sweet cookout on the beach and then played ultimate for a loooong time. My ski girls are doing really good at learing how to pull and drive the other counselors especially since four of them had never driven a boat before and one had never towed another person skiing before. I got to be a "child" for the sailing tippie tests and tip the sunfish's over with Hayley (the sailing director and an awesome ultimate player) We did the macarena on the overturned boats. Tomorrow, barring any weather emergencies, I'll be teaching them how to pull the banana boats and doing some drills to improve their teaching skills. And of course more skiing. I went wakeboarding (I know, I'm a wimp, but it was WAAAAY to choppy to slalom) but it didn't end well. The first time I got up fine, but the counselor was pulling me about 10 m/hr faster than I should have been going (it's one of the skills that we are working on lol) and when I took my hand off to tell her to slow down I crashed hard. I lost one contact. I tried again, but then I lost the other one. I only made it like 1/4 of the way around the lake :( boo... I found one of the contacts in my eye once I was on the boat and then about three hours later half a contact just kind of popped out of my other eye in which I had already put a replacement contact in...kind of weird. I'm not sure if there is a limit of comment letters, so I'm going to end this before I reach it :)
This is the coolest way to keep up to date the CMU students that have left Mt. P for the summer. Thank you for your updates. Kristen keep on ridin'; Summer - not sure what you are up to this summer, but your Bible choice is perfect, I will have to remember that one. and Kelly be careful on the boat and water. I want to see you all back in one piece in August at CMU to share your pictures with me. Hi Marlene, hope you had a nice visit with Kristen in St. Louis, MO. Keep the postings coming, I print them out and have them by the map of Kristen riding across America.
ReplyDeleteHi again! Orientation has officially started, so my posts are going to be less and less frequent from now on. Sorry. I have some free time before "Break-out" I'm not quite sure what that means. The girls do break-out when they split into blue and white teams, but counselors don't have teams. From the stealthy intel that I have gathered it seems that singing and dancing by the area heads and Miranda (waterfront director) will be involved. Could be interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe last two days have been pretty sweet. I guess the study guide that I made for the waterski girls got forwarded on to the commissioner of marine vehicals for NY state and he sent back an email that said "Wow, would love to meet your director when I do the inspection" I'm hoping its a good thing. We skiied each other and ran all three boats. I'm finding it really hard to be hands off and confident in my ski counselors, but they did really well, so I'm feeling better about it. All afternoon we did banana boating which is a five person banana shaped raft. If you pull according to regulations its really boring...the girls aren't so good at following rules. Then one of the girls told Miranda that we took a non waterfront staff on the boat... I was dying from embarresment. I hate rule breaking, especially when I'm in charge, but i figured we could get away with it since Miranda was in a meeting all afternoon and then Lacey marches up to Miranda and says "Hey Miranda, we may have swamped the boat when we took Hector out!" Oops apparently she didn't understand the "We can do it but be sneaky" part. Then we had meetings with the camp directors as returning staff. We got to meet with them indivdually and talk about who we wanted to live with this summer. I'm not sure if I'll get the group I requested because they like to spread out the returners and 9 out of the 11 returners asked to be with Junior B's and the remaining two want to be in the peak....bunk announcements will be interesting. I have to go to breakout now, so I'll tell you about to day later I guess. Post another blog entry so I can comment on that one!
Thanks everyone for your comments! Aunt Dianne, we are on schedule, but I am just unable to update the blog every day, but the dates on the right are always correct, the mileage is just sometime off a little. Love you all!!!
