St Louis, Mo. 68 miles and Build day!

St Louis, Mo. 68 miles and Build day!
It was a very windy day of biking, but a stop at a farmers market and
biking with awesome people made it great. I alternated riding speeds
again today which was nice. Another state line crossed as we passed
over the Mississippi river on the old Chain of Rocks Bridge. It was
very cool. We arrived at our host at about 3 pm, and were welcomed by
a wide array of snack foods provided by Kristina's mother. We eat SO
MUCH FOOD. Later I was able to see my family, mom dad and brothers who
drove about 8 hours to come see me! We went out for dinner and took
pictures by the arches. After that I was reuinited with my group and
we explored St Louis a little more before going to bed.

Saturday build day!
Slept in until 7am, then headed off to the build site. We worked with
Rebuilding Together today, which is an affordable housing organizaion
that seeks to keep families safely in their houses and to sustain the
affordability of their houses. The four houses we worked in today were
over 100 years old, and the main task we worked on was replacing
flooring. Landscaping was something else we worked on. It started to
storm and rain again (our second build day to end in a thunderstorm)
but it was time to leave anyway. Back at the host we went swimming!
This was very refreshing and needed after working in 90 degree heat
and 80% humidity for much of the day. Dinner was delicious once again,
and afterwards my family came over. We ate ice cream together, talked
and played badminton before they had to leave. It was very very nice
to see them :) Played more badminton after they left and now am
getting ready for bed.

  1. Hi there Kristen
We're home again (took the red eye from Sacramento at 12:45 am this morning and got into GR at 9:25 am) and I just spent the last 35 minutes reading your blog updates. I had my maps with me and your schedule so I sort of kept up but missed so much reading what was going on in your world. So sorry for your fall! The hills (mountains) can be very scary even in a car. We were up at 9925' elevation yesterday morning and came down to 300' using lots of switchbacks, brakes, and some curves were marked 10 mph. I wished there were more guard rails. When you come around a corner and all you see is blue sky over the edge it gets very scary. We had a wonderful trip to Yosemite and even did a strenuous 6 hour hike one day up to the Nevada falls via Mist Trail (some 7 miles and 2000'elevation gain) I was whipped! Then later that night we did a Star Gazing tour at Glacier Pt at 7214'. When we left at 10:30pm our guide said we could see about 5000 stars. Amazing!! And to think that the God who was watching over us is also watching over you. The stars we were looking at you also could see. This land of America is so beautiful and so many people miss out on seeing HIS creations!
The waterfalls were thundering with waterflow and the rivers were flooding and raging. HIS power and majesty was everywhere.
So as you continue across America I can only imagine the beauty you are seeing and experiencing! So very proud of you !!! Keep the positve attitude!! You're amazing!! Love you so much!
You are awesome in this place mighty God
You are awesome in this place Abba Father
You are worthy of all praise
to you our lives we raise
You are awesome in this place mighty God. Amen to that!!!!

  2. Hey Kristen! Your day sounds amazing :) Sorry that we didn't connect on the phone, I should have some more free time later in the week so I'll try again then.

Camp has been amazing so far! I feel like this is where I'm supposed to be. I know what is going on this year and I'm striving to be the kind of person that I looked up to last year. I've been helping with the lifeguarding course and first aid/CPR. I'm not licensed to teach, but I help out the ones who are struggling. Today they did their practical tests and everyone passed even the ones who were really struggling. I did have to be a drowning "dummy" for them so I was happy it was in the pool not the lake. I was "lucky" and got the hardest test for the victem. I had to have a heart attack then get pulled up from the bottem and backboarded by the testing guards. I am exhausted from treading water as well as having so much chlorine in my nose that I can't smell anything! lol. I got to drown almost 40 times but I'm glad that I got to help the new waterfront staff out. All of the waterfront returners are back now (Faith flew in late from Scotland) I'm so happy to be back with my other friends. I'd forgotten how thick thier accents are! I've been practicing my austrailian :) And I learned how to sign my name in british sign language. I've got all of my manuals (water ski, water ski director, waterfront, public vessel 2009, public vessel 2010, waterfront, boating saftey and general staff) to read tonight! And I have to type up my study guide. I'll be here all night :) Luckly, curfew isn't instituted for a week or so! Tomorrow I get to take teh ski staff on a tour of the lake and maybe we'll ski if it ever stops raining. It's pretty rainy here. I'm going to stop procrastinating, I'll talk to you later!
